چکیده

Background: The seeds of cumin (Cuminum cyminum L.) are widely used as the spice for their distinctive aroma, they also commonly in traditional medicine to treat a variety diseases. Methods: present study aimed evaluate antioxidant activities extracts and antimicrobial effects against six oral pathogens isolated from dental caries supragingival plaque. were obtained by maceration with acetone, ethanol methanol at 70% (v/v). Result: greatest content polyphenols, flavonoids tannins, was acetone (42±3.46 mg GAE/g DW), (24.49±1.24 EQ/g DW) (34.95±8.71 EC/g respectively. HPLC analysis performed determine acetonic extract components revealed presence p-coumaric acid, diosmin most abundant compounds several apigenins. Antioxidant activity showed (940±42 µg/mL) followed very closely ethanolic (960±50 µg/mL). agar well diffusion method has shown that all have an power Gram+strains. minimum inhibitory concentration values recorded studied vary 12.5 200 mg/mL. These findings suggest seed might be effective antibacterial agent pathogens.

detection of volatile compounds of medicinal plants with some nano-sorbents using modified or new methodologies and investigation of antioxidant activity of their methanolic extracts

in this work, a novel and fast method for direct analysis of volatile compounds (davc) of medicinal plants has been developed by holding a filament from different parts of a plant in the gc injection port. the extraction and analysis of volatile components of a small amount of plant were carried out in one-step without any sample preparation. after optimization of temperature, extraction time a...

Antibacterial Activities and Antibacterial Mechanism of Polygonum cuspidatum Extracts against Nosocomial Drug-Resistant Pathogens.

Recently, drug resistance due to the extensive abuse and over-use of antibiotics has become an increasingly serious problem, making the development of alternative antibiotics a very urgent issue. In this study, the Chinese herbal medicine, Polygonum cuspidatum, was extracted with 95% ethanol and the crude extracts were further purified by partition based on solvent polarity. The antimicrobial a...

Control of Some Human Pathogenic Bacteria by Seed Extracts of Cumin (Cuminum cyminum L.)

Antibacterial activity of seed extracts of cumin (Cuminum cyminum L.) was investigated against 10 gram positive and gram negative bacteria. Disc diff usion method was used to test antibacterial activity. Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) and Minimum Bactericidal Concentration (MBC) were determined by using standard procedures. Th e highest (eff ective) inhibition zone of 16.67±0.47 mm was ...
